River Clean Up
Supported by Offaly Search & Recovery
Wonderful Wednesdays
- The gift that keeps on giving - the satisfaction and sense of achievement after a wonderful community effort with Tullamore Tidy Towns
- Two key teams of volunteers out tonight with one preparing the planters on Patrick Street and another on the Tullamore River with the Offaly Search and Recovery team clearing the river of traffic cones, shopping trollies, bicycles, ironing board, unmentionables, pipes, cable, plastic, bottles, cans, pint glasses, saucepans and general litter. At the same time it is great to see the improved water quality and glad to say we are getting on top of the litter after continuous years of tackling sections at a time - soon we might be in a position to move on to enhancing the river bank. This evening another sweep along the bottom of the park, Millennium Bridge and down past the back of Toms Artisan Bakery. While the Offaly Search and Recovery team were geared up and waded through the river with a rib, members of Tullamore and District Angling Club and Tidy Towns Volunteers used long and short litter pickers to clean the banks and to help when needed to pull out the larger dumped material. Offaly County Council removed the waste collected. Thank you very much to all that took part. If you havent yet helped out please offer up a couple of hours as it makes a big difference and judging takes place in June - we need your help.
